Bex Salt Mine is a veritable underground labyrinth excavated entirely by hand !

For more than four centuries, hundreds of miners have penetrated deep into the mountain to extract what in bygone times was considered to be “white gold”…le Sel des Alpes®! !

The sweat, courage and tenacity of these miners have enabled salt to be extracted up to the present day. It’s also thanks to them that thousands of visitors can discover even today a truly fascinating world of history, discovery, adventure, and, last but not least… magic !

Conscious of the importance both “today” and “tomorrow” of this valuable historical and cultural heritage, an association – Aminsel – was created to promote the last working mine in Switzerland !

The aim of the Salt Mines Foundation is to preserve and showcase the historical and cultural heritage of Bex Salt Mines.
