Original purity
For almost five hundred years, salt has been extracted from the Bex salt mines, always with respect for tradition and for the original purity of this natural resource.
Authentic and natural products, like our salt, are in great demand among modern consumers. Our salt deserves greater recognition.
We have given our salt a name and brand image: Sel des Alpes®. This label is a sign of excellence and quality for consumers and our business partner alike.
Origin
200 million years ago, Switzerland was submerged under water. Thanks to slow evaporation and the formation of the Alps, precious salt deposits could be preserved and protected from all sources of pollution deep in the heart of the Bex salt mines.
Sel des Alpes® is extracted by dissolving it in spring water drawn from our glaciers. It is then harvested through evaporation, ensuring that it conserves its original purity.
Additional information
:
The Sel des Alpes is extracted from the bowels of the earth where deposits were created by the evaporation of the seas long ago. We know that around two hundred million years ago there was a shallow sea covering Europe.
The climate was tropical, which caused the water mass to evaporate, leaving, on the bottom, deposits of salt and gypsum. When, later, the Alps were formed, tons of rock buried these enormous quantities of salt, covered by layers of marl and limestone.
The salt was thus entrapped in the heart of the rock, under the two-fold effect of the powerful pressures and distortions to which the depths of the earth were then subjected. And it remained there for millions of years before spring water started to extract it.
